Feb 21

One of the most active trail days I have ever witnessed. They were going from morning until into the night. First time seeing this as well, I would see three, four, up to six planes at once laying down grids and triangles. There were 2 fighter jets flying around. Also lots of curved trails, which are becoming less rare. Also a double curved trail, and a near-star shape.

FEB 8

I captured a bundle of fibers floating by. From what I’ve heard and seen, these are the same other countries report when there is heavy action in the sky. Also captured an interesting cloud formation at dusk.

The Mist

I spotted this apparent low-hanging, brown web-like mist in several parts of the city on several different days. The first spotting was near Bayou St. John on January 12th, 2014. The mist can be seen on opposing horizons.

The next spotting was along the Mississippi River near the French Quarter. I can’t say if this is a related phenomena, but the large plooms in the distance seem to spread beyond the city to create a similar striped web of mist, as presented in the below faux panorama. These were captured January 19th.

The next spotting was at City Park near NOMA on January 26th. I was taking photos of passing mackerels, when I noticed the hazy brown web showing in my photos. These were taken along the horizon looking northeast to southwest.

After sifting through my archives, I found these past pictures of the mist. Notice on the apparent empty photo, which was taken of a clear blue sky, you can see very light waves. These were barely perceptible, but there nonetheless.

The Black Bar

The black bar is an odd cloud I photographed in December, 2013 in New Orleans. It moved in discreetly, and looked ominous because of its black color, as opposed to the red, white and grey clouds surrounding it. Click the thumbnails to see a slide show of the black bar coming into being. In the first photo, you’ll see the bar peeking out of the lower right-hand corner.

Bayou Panorama

Panorama taken near Bayou St. John. Other images on this site cross referenced: 1) Notice “Big Hook” to the left. Also, this trail originates on the right of the photo. Because of the panorama shot, it appears to go in the other direction. 2) The trail can also be seen in this vertical panorama. 3) The black “diamond” cloud on the left, to the right of the hook cloud, later becomes “The Black Bar”.
